Our Year 7 and 8 students are studying poetry around the theme of music this half term. They will each write a poem of their own about music and the best from each class will be entered in the Chris Salmon Foundation Poetry competition in January.

As part of preparing for the competition, the students presented their poems to their classmates.

Miss Franklin, Head of English at The Birkenhead Park School, commented, “Making a presentation eloquently and in a way which engages your audience is such an important skill, in order to succeed in job interviews, professional conversations or even just in friendship. It builds confidence and boosts self-esteem. The students have really enjoyed this topic and they understand the value of the skills they have developed.”

Year 8 students commented:
“I was really nervous at first but then I just forgot everyone was there and it was great fun.”
“Being able to speak in in front of people is a great skill and will help me in the future.”
