The group of 42 Year 5 students took part in two taster sessions on Monday 1 February, involving ICT and PE.

They were shown our impressive ICT equipment and given time on the computers using the SCRATCH programme.

Year 5 Teacher Miss Jones from Bidston Village Primary said: “The ICT session was brilliant. SCRATCH is so current and it links with what we do in school so the children can relate to it. We all had a great morning.”

The children also took part in a PE session which was in the sports hall. They were set a circuit challenge competition which included various stations such as tennis ball catch, basketball dribbling, ladders, speed bounce and many more. The aim was to score as many points on each station as possible in the allocated time.

One of the children said: “I really enjoyed the morning and had lots of fun in PE with Miss Evans, it was great.”

Acting Headteacher Helen Johnson welcomed the students and visited them in the sessions throughout the morning. She was also part of a short awards assembly before the children left.

Mrs Johnson was impressed by the young people, she said: “The children were all very excited to be here and got to experience just what we have to offer at The Birkenhead Park School. They were shown our Year 7 Base which helps ease our younger students from primary to secondary education and ensures they feel confident, safe and secure as they continue their learning.

“All the students were a credit to Bidston Village Primary and behaved extremely well and I hope to see them back at The Birkenhead Park School soon.”

The Birkenhead Park School holds regular taster sessions as part of its primary liaison work with schools in the area.
