Extracurricular opportunities are a huge part of Personal Development at The Birkenhead Park School, giving students the chance to explore new interests, develop confidence and build friendships outside the classroom.

We are proud to be running more than 25 clubs each week, offering something for everyone. From sports clubs such as Football, Rugby, Volleyball, Basketball and Cricket, to creative opportunities including Art Club, Drama Club, Dance Club and Singing Club, students can take part in an array of activities that align with their passions. Alongside this, academic clubs like STEM & UKMT Club, Science Club, History Unscripted and more provide students with the chance to expand their knowledge in creative ways.

Our young people have plenty of opportunities to stay active, be creative, and try new things in a supportive environment.

This term has been particularly exciting, with students in Singing Club rehearsing for our upcoming Summer Showcase (details to be announced soon), while Dance Club members have been busy preparing for their Wirral Dance Festival performance. Across school, clubs continue to provide memorable experiences for students to shine outside the classroom, whether that’s competing in a sports competition or performing on a stage in the local area.

The Wirral Dance Festival, entitled ‘A Moment In Time… That Shaped the World’, is taking place at The Floral Pavilion in June, with our students performing in both shows on Wednesday the 17th. Tickets are available to purchase here.

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been speaking to students about the clubs they attend and what they enjoy the most about taking part.

Amelia in Year 8, who attends Dance Club, said: “I love dancing. It makes me happy and I like how we work as a team. People say, when you dance, you forget about everything going on and you’re in your own little world. I think it’s good to go to a club after school because you get to spend more time with your friends and you get to do what you love doing.”

Theo in Year 7 takes part in a variety of extracurricular activities: “I really like going to clubs because it’s a good way to clear your mind. I think that Careers Club is underrated! It really will benefit you a lot in the future. They all will, as going to an extracurricular club is very good, but Careers Club is going to boost your confidence for when you’re older and getting a job.”

Science Club attendee Mohammed, Year 8, explained: “I enjoy that one day you could be making motorised cars or elephant toothpaste, and then the next you’re working with fire, being a scientist. It’s good to go to an extracurricular club because you can do things you love, like science and volleyball, anything, and bring your friends with you.”

Extracurricular clubs are a key part of school life at The Birkenhead Park School, and students are recognised and rewarded for their commitment, participation and achievements just as they would be during lessons. This year, students have been earning points for attendance, with the highest point earners set to be rewarded with a special trip before summer.

On social media, we have been showcasing some of our clubs through #BPSClubLife, giving parents, carers, and the wider community an insight into the exciting activities taking place. Keep an eye out for further content on our FacebookInstagram, and TikTok.

Student Engagement Coordinator & Careers Lead, Miss K Brown, said: “It’s important to us that we provide our young people with opportunities beyond the classroom where they can discover new interests. I get to see many of our clubs in action and they always have such a fantastic atmosphere. It's brilliant to see so many students getting involved each week.”

Miss A Clarke, Assistant Headteacher and lead on Personal Development, said: “At The Birkenhead Park School, we are determined to give every young person the opportunity to follow their passions, try new experiences and feel part of the wider school community. Our extracurricular programme has had such a positive impact on students across the school and we are always looking at new ways to encourage even more people to get involved.”
