Pupils learn the Haka after competing in Tag Rugby Festival
10 February 2016
Children from Portland Primary and The Priory Parish Primary took part in the competition before being taught the traditional Haka dance which was led by four of our Year 8 leaders.
One of the teachers from Portland Primary said: “The Year 8 students were great ambassadors for The Birkenhead Park School, showing great leadership and they were fantastic with the children.”
The school teams were a mix of Year 3 and 4 children who competed in two groups, with the winners from both groups taking part in the final.
Priory Team 1 won the competition and all the children got involved and really enjoyed the experience.
One of the pupils said: “It was so much fun, especially learning the dance at the end, I have had a great time.”
Head of Year 7 and teacher of PE Miss Evans led the event and was really impressed with the children’s performance: “All the pupils showed great competiveness and skills throughout the afternoon and the games were really close. What was lovely to see as well was such great sportsmanship from the children who were really cheering each other on and praising each other.”
The Tag Rugby Festival is part of The Birkenhead Park Schools Outreach programme, where teachers from BPS provide PE sessions and inputs to Primary Schools in the area.
