Students from Year 7 and 8 took part and raised money for charity, while children from Portland Primary and Well Lane Primary got involved to get active and warmed up for the Olympics.

Nikiti from Portland Primary said: “It has been so much fun learning new dances, I will definitely sleep tonight!”

Lacie from Well Lane Primary added: “I like the fact we got to do more exercise and it was good fun learning the dance routines. It is very important for us to keep fit so we are healthy and I have really enjoyed it.”

The event was planned and delivered by The Birkenhead Park School Games Organiser Mrs Corcoran. She said: “With the Olympics being held in Rio this year we thought that this would be a fantastic opportunity to theme our dance-a-thon on world cultural dance.

“All the children had a fantastic time and it was a great way to also raise money for a charity that has done a lot to support us in the past.”

Our students raised over £500 for the Happy Days Children’s Charity. The charity supports children and young people by giving them magical trips and experiences that they would not otherwise be able to have. It has supported the school with trips in the past so the Dance-a-thon was seen as a great opportunity to give something back.
