Over a hundred students were at the school this morning eagerly opening their results envelopes and the majority of students are planning to continue their academic studies at Birkenhead Sixth Form College.

This year has seen the introduction of new and more difficult GCSEs in Maths and English.

Elizabeth Bridson’s hard work was rewarded with the top grade possible in English Language.  She is one of only a handful of students to be awarded a prestigious grade 9 in English Language and this puts her in the top 3% in the country.

Hamza Jouma gained high grades in nine subjects, including an impressive grade 8 in new style GCSE Maths.   These results are made even more remarkable given that he only moved to this country from Syria in 2015 and English is not his first language.  He is now planning to join his brother, Abdou, at Birkenhead Sixth Form College where he hopes to fulfil his dream of becoming a doctor.

With three A*s, Niamh Canning is also looking forward to studying A levels and has her sight set on a career as a vet.

There was further celebration when Mark Fletcher revealed his clean sweep of high grades, including As in Chemistry and Physics, which puts him on course to study Marine Biology at university.

Mark’s mum said: “I can’t thank the teachers enough for how they have helped Mark to excel and push himself beyond what he thought he could achieve.”

Headteacher at The Birkenhead Park School, Helen Johnson, said: “I am very proud of our students today.  They have worked incredibly hard to achieve these results, especially in light of the new, tougher GCSE exams in English and Maths.  Most importantly, I am delighted that these results mean that our students are now able to go on to college or the next phase of their lives and make the choices that they want.”
