The Birkenhead Park School was proud to welcome students and staff from Kontiki School in Denmark this week, as part of the ongoing annual partnership between the two schools. This exciting international exchange is a key feature of the schools' collaboration programme, offering students a valuable cultural and educational experience.

Building global friendships

The visiting students from Kontiki have been paired with specially selected 'BPS Buddies'—students from The Birkenhead Park School who are acting as guides, hosts, and new friends during the visit. This buddy system has been designed to help the Danish students integrate quickly into school life and make the most of their day at BPS, while giving BPS students the chance to connect with peers from a different country and culture.

Year 7 student Khaleesi, said: “It’s been really fun getting to know someone from another country. We’ve been comparing our lessons, and it’s interesting to see how different things are but also how much we have in common.”

Experiencing British education

During their visit, the Kontiki students are fully immersed in the British secondary school experience. They are attending a range of lessons across different subjects, from English Literature and Maths to Science and Food Tech, offering them a snapshot of the academic life at BPS.

Staff from both schools have also collaborated on joint activities and discussions around education, learning styles, and student engagement. The visit is an opportunity not just for the students to learn from each other, but for the educators to share best practices and strengthen their international partnership.

A lasting partnership

The exchange is part of a long-standing relationship between the two schools, with annual visits from our Danish friends that encourage intercultural understanding and friendship. Head of Performing Arts, Mrs Houghton, said: "We are delighted to host our friends from Kontiki School again this year. These exchanges are about much more than classroom learning—they build character, confidence, and a real appreciation of other cultures. Our students benefit hugely from this opportunity, and we look forward to many more years of partnership."

Judging by the smiles, shared stories, and enthusiastic feedback, the visit has once again proven to be a valuable and enriching experience for all involved.
