Our Year 7 students recently had a fantastic time completing a work experience programme with Magenta Living, gaining valuable skills, building confidence and discovering the wide range of careers available within the housing sector.
Magenta Living is Wirral's largest social landlord, providing homes and services to thousands of customers across the borough.
During their visit, students explored a variety of departments, including fire safety, marketing, finance, HR and IT. They heard from professionals across the organisation, learned about different career pathways and took part in a range of interactive activities designed to develop teamwork, communication, problem-solving and creativity. This included designing social media posts, working through HR scenarios, learning how to prioritise issues at an IT helpdesk and identifying potential fire hazards.
Throughout the experience, students had the chance to ask questions, work together and learn how their own skills can be applied in the workplace. The programme also gave them a greater understanding of the positive impact those careers can have on the local community.
This exciting partnership forms part of The Birkenhead Park School's commitment to providing meaningful careers education and employer engagement from an early stage. By introducing students to an array of workplaces and roles, we strive to raise aspirations and help our young people make informed choices about their futures.
Miss Clarke, Assistant Headteacher and Personal Development Lead at The Birkenhead Park School, said: "Everyone had a wonderful time at Magenta and came away with so many new skills and interests. Experiences like this help bring learning to life and encourage our students to think positively about the exciting opportunities that could be available to them in the future."
Sally Ross, Jobs Plus Manager at Magenta Living, commented: “It was a pleasure to welcome such an inspiring group of young people into our offices and showcase the wide range of careers available in housing – from marketing and content creation to finance and customer services.
“We hope the experience has built confidence, sparked ambition and helped young people see the impact they can have in their communities. We’re excited to grow our partnership with The Birkenhead Park School and continue supporting the next generation.”
Student Engagement Coordinator and Careers Lead, Miss Brown, said: "At BPS, we want our students to participate in work experience programmes on a regular basis. Our goal is to provide them with the experiences, opportunities and tools they need to explore different career paths, discover what they enjoy and shape their futures with confidence."
Both The Birkenhead Park School and Magenta Living look forward to continuing this successful partnership, creating more opportunities for students to develop essential employability skills and gain valuable insight into the world of work.
