At The Birkenhead Park School, we are committed to preparing our students for their next steps beyond secondary education. We aim to support them fully and ensure they are aware of the wide range of opportunities available. One way we do this is through our dedicated Careers Days, which give students valuable insight into future education, training, and employment pathways.
Today, our Year 10 students took part in a Careers Day, spending the day engaging in a variety of activities and interactive sessions led by external partners, including Wirral Met College and Wirral Council. These sessions provided practical guidance, expert advice, and a clearer understanding of the options available to them for the future.
The day began with an assembly delivered by Birkenhead Sixth Form College, where our young people were introduced to post-16 pathways and got to hear all about BSFC’s courses and student experience, helping them to understand what sixth form entails.
During a session with Wirral Council’s Talent & Apprentice Lead, students learned all about CVs, including how to write one, what employers look for, and why a strong CV is so important. Students had the opportunity to draft their own CVs and receive personalised guidance, enabling them to develop essential skills for the world of work.
With Wirral Met College, students explored what the college has to offer and focused on post-16 qualifications and opportunities. They learned about the differences between A Levels and T Levels, sixth forms and colleges, how apprenticeships work, and the importance of attending open days. Students also used Unifrog to research career pathways and completed written reflections, considering the subjects they enjoy, the skills they possess and the careers they are curious about.
Overall, our Year 10s gained a wealth of valuable information and left the day feeling more confident, informed and motivated about their futures.
Throughout the year, we will continue to support students as they take the step into Year 11 and begin making important decisions about their future. Our staff are always on-hand to offer guidance and students can also speak to our Student Engagement Coordinator & Careers Lead, Miss K Brown, who provides one-to-one support to help them explore their options, plan for further education, university and apprenticeships.
Miss K Brown, Student Engagement Coordinator & Careers Lead at The Birkenhead Park School said: “Events like our Year 10 Careers Day are so important because they give students the chance to explore different career paths and start thinking about their own futures in a hands-on way. Our students really enjoy these opportunities, and they help them feel more confident and informed about their next steps in education and work.”
As a School on the Up, The Birkenhead Park School is proud to offer enriching experiences like this that raise aspirations and ensure that everyone is supported to achieve their full potential.
